Les Invisibles – Part 2

[j_linea]

For my final MA show I’ve been doing research about female cultural and intelectual personalities from the 20’s and the 30’s on Spain.

My interest with them start when I read an article from an Spanish secondary school teacher who when teaching the literature from before the Spanish Civil War (talking about Lorca, Buñuel, Alberti for example) was asked by one of the students, “there weren’t female writers on that moment?” And in fact there were, but were “erased from history”, because the 40 years of dictatorship, the sexism of that times and even by their male pals.

While entering on the research, I start discovering more and more women who where an important part of history, and my research was only closed to an Spanish artists!

For my project I stated to work with the portraits of the artists. With this part of the work, I have “Les invisibles 2″ . I was getting a really big and awesome collection of photos of them, so with ink I did a fake photo album with shows the classical photos of that time, the poses and the backgrounds, to the photos whit other artists and more “artistic photos” with show how they played and created on their daily life.

Because at the end this was a work for me, to get to have my own referents in history and in some way don’t feel like you are doing something without background and feeling that nobody was there before you.

I had the opportunity to show one of the prints of “Les invisibles 2” on the GX Gallery  in London on its 2017 edition of FLOCK, the gallery’s annual graduate exhibition, showcasing the work of new graduates from UK Universities and Art Schools. FLOCK aims to promote new and emerging artists, giving them the opportunity to gain exposure and exhibit in a commercial exhibition.

Les Invisibles – Part 1

For my project I stated to work with the portraits of the artists. With this part of the work, I have “Les invisibles 1” . I was trying to show in it the artist and the personality. I’ve chosen linocut as medium because I think the graphic expression I can get with it is stronger. Some of the portraits are the artist in their early years of production and some of them in their last ones. I made this distinction looking for the photographs and portraits where they where stronger in their practice or I feel more related.

Because at the end this was a work for me, to get to have my own referents in history and in some way don’t feel like you are doing something without background and feeling that nobody was there before you.
